Volume 8 : August 2007

Once upon a time there was a king who wanted to learn more about his kingdom by personally visiting the districts.
He disguised himself and went around the town. After a while, he got thirsty and tired from walking in the heat. So he decided to stop by a farm. The farmer did not recognize the King as he was disguised; however he offered him sugarcane juice with all his generosity. The King feels satisfied and happy and questions the farmer on how the farm produce is so rich. To this the humble farmer explains that their king has been very kind to them and does not levy any land taxes. Hence the kindness of the king is reflected on the farm produce.
After returning back to his palace, the king became proud and thereafter started charging land tax to all the farmers. On his next disguised visit to the farms, the same farmer offers him only a little sugarcane juice which is not sweet in taste. The astonished king questions the farmer as to why the juice is not as satisfying as before. The farmer then explains that due to the negative thoughts and vibrations of the king on the land, the farm produce has also turned out dry.
A simple incident as above indicates us that what vibrations and thoughts we put into our work ...the same will be reflected back at us.
It is true that we may have to do many chores in our lives that we may not enjoy doing... but we have to train ourselves to control our thought process...so as to reap the sweet benefits of our work....this reinforces Swamiji's preaching to treat work as worship...and no worship should be half-hearted...isn't it ??
